Check out these things to do with the kids in Caerphilly / Caerffili, whether it's visiting Aber Valley Heritage Museum, or letting off steam at Nelson Wern Park, I've got you covered, and best of all it's free!
I'm still adding to this list, so keep checking back, please get in touch if you've got any hidden gems to recommend, or if you have a picture to replace any that I'm missing (ie the places that have words). As a thank you, I'll send a 20% money off voucher to spend in the shop for anything that gets used.
I've tried to make sure that all the details on here are up to date, but please do double check on the websites I've linked to before you travel in case anything has changed. Although I'd love to be able to travel to every place on here, time and practicalities dictate that I've sourced a lot of information from 3rd parties so some information might be incorrect (Please let me know if you spot anything that is so that I can amend it).
Especially important: double check parking costs to avoid any nasty surprises on a day out that was supposed to be cheap, and obviously, be careful if you're visiting places with kids, especially where the terrain is dangerous (ruins, cliffs, beaches, slippy paths etc).
Happy adventuring!
More of a big hill than a huge mountain, there's a couple of options for walking up it on the link. Both will give you amazing views without being too strenuous.
A remarkable museum and memorial garden telling the history of the 2 pit disasters, as well as the wider history of the valley.
The former site of the Ogilvie Colliery, it's now a beautiful park with a visitor centre, lakeside paths, woodlands, meadows. There's also a playground, assault course, ampitheatre, and trails to explore.
Say hello to 'Sultan the Pit Pony', a huge earth sculpture of a horse. You can also climb to the observatory and enjoy the panoramic views, walk through the willow tunnel, explore the trails, and find the sleeping giant.
A town park with sports pitches, a playground, and a skate park, as well as open spaces.
Wildflower meadows, a playground, and a splash pad will keep the kids happy. There's also a skate park, a multi-use-games-area, and sports pitches, and outdoor gym equipment.
A country park combined with an urban one, there's a playground overlooked by an ampitheatre, a BMX track, skate ramps, wildflower meadows, and boardwalks across wet woods.
11 hectares of open green space, sports pitches, and a playground including a 4 metre high helter skelter. There's also woodland and wildflower meadows to explore.
You know what the kids would love to be filling in as you're exploring new places? An epic activity pack! And it should be filled with easy activity ideas, and stickers, and personalised!
