"I have lived in Glasgow practically my whole life - no idea there was a police museum until I looked at your list! Thanks for a fab free morning!" - Sally
Days out, we love them! They're so much more fun than sitting at home and pretending not to notice the overflowing laundry basket. But oh my god, that sinking feeling when I've found a family friendly place to visit near me that I know the kids will love and then I see the hefty admission price. It's the worst. Here is over 1,000 places to visit in the UK that are free. (although do double check before you go in case something's changed, and see how much parking might be etc. I don't want you to get stung).
With every county in England, Northern Ireland and Wales, and every Local Authority Area in Scotland represented there's sure to be a place to visit near you. I double checked each place to see what the vibe was, and only included places that I think most kids will love. I've written notes if they're best for older kids, or if I spotted information that they have relaxed openings for SEN people. There's things to do on rainy days, educational activities, nature to explore and places for wonderful memories to be created.
There's already so many free places to visit in the UK listed in this directory, I have hope that it can get better and better with the more recommendations that people send me. A little local knowledge is invaluable, so please get in touch if you've got a hidden gem to share about family places to visit near you, or if the information listed is out of date. Then I can add it on for other parents to benefit from. The village in action if you will.
Enjoy! Seize the day! Let me know how you got on.
