Check out these things to do with the kids in County Down, whether it's playing knights at Dundrum Castle, or letting off steam at Kilbroney Park, I've got you covered, and best of all it's free!
I'm still adding to this list, so keep checking back, please get in touch if you've got any hidden gems to recommend, or if you have a picture to replace any that I'm missing (ie the places that have words). As a thank you, I'll send a 20% money off voucher to spend in the shop for anything that gets used.
I've tried to make sure that all the details on here are up to date, but please do double check on the websites I've linked to before you travel in case anything has changed. Although I'd love to be able to travel to every place on here, time and practicalities dictate that I've sourced a lot of information from 3rd parties so some information might be incorrect (Please let me know if you spot anything that is so that I can amend it).
Especially important: double check parking costs to avoid any nasty surprises on a day out that was supposed to be cheap, and obviously, be careful if you're visiting places with kids, especially where the terrain is dangerous (ruins, cliffs, beaches, slippy paths etc).
Happy adventuring!
4 miles of golden sands, set against the backdrop of the Mourne Mountains, with dunes, woodland, and heath. There's a play area for the kids to play in.
Lovely beaches and walks in nature through woodland, meadow, glens, and past a waterfall.
Learn about the rich local history in the museum set in an old gaol of 1796. There's plenty of interesting exhibits and hands on activities, including visiting the old gaol.
A large forest park, featuring riverside walks, an arboretum, and a 2 mile forest drive with panoramic views. There's a fairy glen, a playpark, and a Narnia trail, entered through a wardrobe door.
The ruins of an interesting castle, believed to be built in 1177 as part of a coastal defence, it gives great views over the Bay. There are information boards to tell you more about the history.
A small museum packed full of local history from the bronze age to the present day, with loads to keep the kids entertained including dressing up as a monk or a viking, activity sheets, and explorers packs.
A stone circle excavated in the 1930s, its not yet known when it was created. To reach it, you walk through a beautiful lane made of gorse bushes and stone walls.
You know what the kids would love to be filling in as you're exploring new places? An epic activity pack! And it should be filled with easy activity ideas, and stickers, and personalised!
