Especially important: double check parking costs to avoid any nasty surprises on a day out that was supposed to be cheap, and obviously, be careful if you're visiting places with kids, especially where the terrain is dangerous (ruins, cliffs, beaches, slippy paths etc).

Famous for its history during the plague, when the village was infected due to cloth imported from London. They then sealed themselves off to prevent it spreading to other communities. Visit the local historical sites, there's also a museum with an entry fee.

A celebration of innovation, learn about Derby's 300 years of making on what is believed to be the world's first factory site. There's plenty of activities to keep kids entertained.

A riverside promenade next to the historic North Mill. Take a walk around the beautiful gardens, and enjoy the large playground inspired by Belper's cotton mill heritage.
321 acres of open parkland, woodland, and more formal historical gardens. The castle is not open to the public, but you can take a stroll round beautiful places like the Old English garden, walled garden, and play in the playground.
An eclectic collection of art, and artefacts. Kids will be engaged by the natural history collection, including the stuffed animals.
Several kids play areas, plus lots of open space, as well as trails for walking and cycling around the reservoir, and a hands on exhibition. Check out their event programme.
A large country park with a lake, playground, open space, and trails for walking or cycling.
Derby's most visited park, with a playground for toddlers, and one for older kids, including an accessible adventure pirate ship. There's also a skate park, a seasonal paddling pool, bouncy castle, car track, and mini golf.
Burn off energy on the play areas, including accessible play equipment in this beautiful forest. There are areas set aside for den building, and adventurous play, and lots of trails to follow.
A man made reservoir, with plenty of walks through wildflower meadows, woodlands, and around the water. There's also a playground near the car park.
